The Responsibilities And Characteristics Of A Scrum Instructor

By Catherine Burns

Managing a project to completion needs a lot of stakeholders. The project manager cannot do the job alone. He should thus integrate other parties like the CSM. These professionals will help the project manager to coordinate the entire project easily. A CSM has so many roles that he/she plays in a project. He ensures that the project runs as desired by ensuring that the team is motivated at all times. Therefore, the main work of this professional is to motivate the team to work harder and better. The following are some of the responsibilities and qualities of a Scrum Instructor.

This professional must be collaborative. He should, therefore, form all the necessary links between the project teams and the product owner. The owner of the project will drive the team towards the delivery of the goals. On the other hand, the CSM will nurture the team and create a successful collaboration to meet the goals of the client. This professional thus encourages the teams and makes critical decisions.

Additionally, this expert facilitates his team around the clock. He does not manage the project as he is not the project owner but ensures that the team is okay. He takes note of the efforts of the team and any challenges they might be facing. He looks for ways to make their work easier and sees to it that all team members are doing their job. Therefore, he is the primary facilitator for the team.

This expert should also be very knowledgeable. He should thus be able to resolve impediments and prevent any future problems. To do this, the professional should have an in-depth knowledge of the product. He also ensures that the team is proactive so that any future challenges and roadblocks can be avoided. H should thus be able to ensure that the team is productive.

This person should have an influential character. He should be a person that the team wants to emulate. This is because he is a leader of the team and the first person any member of the team approaches in case of problems. With the right influence on people, the professional can easily encourage them to work hard so that the visions and goals of the project are achieved.

The roles of this professional are also many and are essential in any project. For instance, it is the responsibility of the CSM to coach teams about the project practices. He also creates teams and ensures that they are integrated into the organization. He ensures that the team members know the vision of the project and ensures that communication is effective.

This expert also holds daily meetings with the team members to catch up on the activities of the day. In case any problems may have arisen during the work, the CSM addresses them in these meetings. He also sees to it that the team gets any new information from above.

This expert must be up to date with new technologies. He also must introduce new engineering skills and techniques to his team. In case the team members have to be trained on how to operate modern equipment, it is the responsibility of the CSM to train them in time.
