The new "Call of Duty: Black Ops 2" is making major money. Previous reports have indicated it might be down 15% year-over-year, but $1 billion in sales is nothing to sneeze at. In fact, the latest is that Treyarch has grossed that on the game quicker than the "Modern Warfare" title.
According to GameRanx.com, it took 15 days for the new COD game to hit $1 billion in sales. Compared to "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare," it was a day quicker. Treyarch also pointed out that James Cameron's hit movie "Avatar" took 17 days to reach that sales mark. Keep in mind movie tickets are about a sixth the cost of video games, depending on the sales deals or movie theater you hit.
Game Ranx also points out that there have been no figures released about the game as far as which platforms have sold the most copies, or whether it is just the "Black Ops 2" for Xbox 360 and PS3. There is also "Black Ops: Declassified" game available for the PS Vita, but Treyarch did not mention that in any of their statements.
When looking at Amazon.com, the video games Best Sellers list reflects the box 360 version of "Black Ops 2" sits at #3 behind a few versions of "Just Dance 4." Down the list at #7 is the Playstation 3 version of the new COD game, indicating that Xbox 360 is at least killing PS3 in terms of the sales on Amazon's site. As for in stores, it could be a different story.
Overall though, Treyarch has another successful title on their hands. Their have been complaints about lack of dedicated servers, but it seems the gaming company is going to continue to improve on their already popular series. Just imagine the gameplay, graphics and zombies in the next generation versions coming in the next year or so.
