Finally, Apple gets Google Maps back, after apologizing to the public for dropping them for their inferior product.

Apple has a history of wanting everything to be proprietary, and three months ago, they replaced Google maps with their own Maps app, which had a multitude of fancy features. There was just one problem. The maps were awful.

According to an article at Sky News, the problem was that the Apple maps were based on Dutch navigation equipment and information for the TomTom GPS system's data.

But there were glaring errors. Police in Australia warned people not to use Apple maps because travelers were getting lost in the wilderness in dangerously hot temperatures. One town was actually located 43 miles away from its actual location on the Apple map.

The product was so bad that Apple issued a rare public apology and even suggested that Apple users use Google Maps through the internet on their mobile devices!

So now Apple gets Google Maps back as a free app. You can still use Apple's maps too, but why would you want to?
